SLV Fall Educators Conference 2026

In this session, students will become Art Detectives as they investigate a famous work of art using Google Gemini. Students will begin with an unidentified artwork and use Gemini’s visual search tool to discover the title of the artwork and the artist who created it.
Once the artwork has been identified, students will learn how to write effective AI prompts to guide their research. Rather than simply asking Gemini to “tell me about this painting,” students will develop specific questions and prompts to uncover information about the artist, when and where the artwork was created, its subject matter, artistic style, interesting facts, movement, and the story or meaning behind the work.
Students will use the information they gather to handwrite an original paragraph about their selected artwork and artist, practicing how to take information from a research tool and communicate it in their own words.
Finally, students will bring their research back into the art studio by creating a miniature Shrinky Dink reproduction of the famous artwork they investigated. Students will trace and color their selected masterpiece, then watch as their artwork transforms into a miniature version of the original.
