Kindergarten Emergent Literacy Skills & Routines
LIMITED
Friday September 11, 2026 10:20am - 11:10am MDT
Limited Capacity seats available
First I presented this class three times in the spring session and had 8 to 10 peers in each session I think and they really seem to enjoy it and had great participation.  So this would be a repeat class (if that is allowed) and would need to be stated so people do not sign up who already attended.  I am not sure if this is allowed but I feel like there are so many teachers who attend that I would like to present it again since last spring teachers told me how much they liked the session.

Introduce literacy skills and routines to help students become successful readers and writers.
The presenters will model alphabet routines and letter introduction including letter exploration buckets, sand, building letters, and making a Project Based Learning alphabet classroom book. Model whole brain teaching of sight words and invitation to notice which focusing on writing mechanics.  Discuss different ways to deepen phonemic awareness with concrete visuals using pocket chaining.  We will also go over fun engaging hands on activities to develop vowel sounds and letter recognition with different ideas such as letter hunts and vowel cornhole.  Lastly we will review writing curriculum our elementary team created to correlate with CKLA Knowledge & Skills in kindergarten and model anchor charts I use in the classroom with the QSSSA strategy.
